Policies on Loans to Specific Sectors

Through honest and fair corporate activities, the Chiba Bank strives for sustainable management aimed at achieving both economic value and social value by addressing a variety of environmental and social issues, including climate change countermeasures in response to global warming.

We have established the following policies on loans to clarify our lending attitudes with respect to specific sectors where lending is considered to have a large impact on the environment and society.

1. Credit for Newly Established Coal-fired Power Plants

In principle, we will not extend credit to newly established coal-fired thermal power plants.

However, in cases where support from the Government of Japan, international development organizations, etc. can be confirmed, as an exception to the above policy, we may carefully consider credit support after taking into account the factors and the background of each individual project, such as power generation efficiency performance and environmental impact, with reference to international guidelines, etc.^*

2. Credit to Cluster Munition Manufacturers

Due to the inhumanity of cluster munitions, we prohibit credit to companies that manufacture cluster munitions, regardless of the use of funds.

3. Credit for Palm Oil Farm Development

When considering credit for the development of palm oil plantations, we will make a credit decision with due attention to the status of obtaining RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certification, which is an internationally certified sustainable palm oil, the status of environmental considerations, and the status of problems with local communities.

4. Credit for Deforestation Business

When considering credit for the deforestation business, we will make a credit decision with due attention to the status of obtaining internationally recognized certifications, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes), etc., environmental considerations, and the status of problems with local communities.
